Why Homeownership Matters

You may wonder why Habitat encourages homeownership, is owning a home really better than renting? While it is not always possible to own a home, and maybe it’s not right for everyone, there are reasons why we pour so much effort into helping people become homeowners.

Our solution offers a hand-up, not a hand-out. Homeowners have an affordable mortgage, and put many hours of “sweat equity” into their home. Families work alongside staff and volunteers, building their home and learning valuable skills along the way.

FREE Donation Pickup Is Available Now

Donating your household and building items is easy and FREE, and it helps us build homes for families in Carroll County. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more to the public at a fraction of the retail price.
