Giving Opportunities

We build towards a Carroll County where everyone has a decent place to live. We work towards this vision thanks to local partnerships that include individuals, faith communities, corporations, civic associations, student groups and hundreds of volunteers and donors just like you.

As a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, your gift to Carroll County Habitat for Humanity is tax-deductible as allowed under the IRS tax code (our EIN #52-2277289).

Make an online donation right now.

It’s quick & simple, and your money goes straight to work in our homebuilding and repair projects right here in Carroll County. To learn about additional giving opportunities, click the subject headings below.

A tribute gift is a great way to honor family or friends, celebrate a special occasion, or express sympathy for the loss of a loved one. When you make a gift in tribute, a personalized acknowledgment is sent to the individual or family being honored. We’ll send the honoree or their family a note indicating that a gift was made (the amount of the gift is not mentioned) for their personal acknowledgement.

At the end of the online donation process, specify tribute information in the Additional Comments box.

Your values can live on in the legacy you leave to other. Gift planning is finding the right path to make charitable gifts now or after your lifetime to organizations that have meaning to you. It takes a very special person to make plans that benefit others both during and beyond their lifetime.

The Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County Dream Builders Society recognizes our forward-thinking friends who have done just that. We welcome new Dream Builders at any time – there are just two simple requirements for membership. First, make arrangements to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County after your lifetime. Second, let us know about your plans. We rely on donations to serve families in our communities. Every gift, no matter the size, is appreciated.

With a legacy gift to Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County you can help us do what we do today, even
better, for generations to come. These kinds of planned gifts are simple to arrange and often return benefits back to you.

For example, you can:

» Make a gift today that costs you nothing during your lifetime
» Receive guaranteed payments for life in return for your gift
» Donate life insurance you no longer need
» Save big on taxes by giving appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds
» Preserve your estate for your children and deliver ongoing support to us
» Use a gift to reduce your estate tax exposure and eliminate capital gains
» Donate your house or vacation property, take a tax deduction and continue to use the property for as long as you want

If you would like to learn more about how you can build with us through a planned gift (wills, trusts, real estate or life insurance), feel free to contact us.

You’d like to help, but need the income. Or you may have highly-appreciated stock that pays a low dividend, but you don’t want to trigger the capital gain.  Whether funded with cash or stock, a gift annuity will provide a handsome cash flow that may be partially tax-free. You’ll also get a partial tax deduction now.

If you transfer your stock to the gift annuity, you can significantly reduce the capital gain, and spread the rest of it out over a number of years. The best part is, after you’re gone, what’s left over will help build and repair homes for Habitat families. Contact Stephanie Averett, Director of Development, at saverett@cchabitat.org or call 410-751-7722, to discuss how you’d like to make your gift.

A GIFT OF STOCK OR MUTUAL FUNDS BEFORE DECEMBER 31 COULD BE A GREAT WAY TO MAXIMIZE TAX SAVINGS AND MEET YOUR CHARITABLE GIVING GOALS THIS YEAR.

Even if your stocks have lost value since you purchased them, you can receive tremendous tax advantages. The key is in how you give the securities! Consult with your financial advisor and consider the following tips.

A Smart Way to Donate Depreciated Stock

For stocks that have lost value, or depreciated, the key is to sell them first and then give the cash proceeds to Carroll County Habitat for Humanity. You are likely to qualify to benefit tax-wise in two ways – you may qualify to take both the loss deduction and the charitable deduction.

A Smart Way to Donate Appreciated Stock

For stocks that have increased in value, or appreciated, the key to receiving tax savings is to donate the shares directly to Carroll County Habitat for Humanity. You may receive a double tax benefit by:

  • Avoiding capital gains on the profit you’ve gained, and
  • Receiving a full tax deduction for the fair market value of your gift.
  • If you would like to make a gift of stock or mutual funds, please contact: Stephanie Averett, Director of Development, saverett@cchabitat.org or call 410-751-7722 to discuss how you’d like to make your gift.
