Transforming Lives One Home at a Time: Our Latest Critical Home Repair Project

Critical Home Repair team and volunteers

At Habitat for Humanity of Carroll County, we believe that a safe and functional home is the cornerstone of a stable and healthy life. Through our Critical Home Repair Program, we’re able to extend a hand to homeowners in need, ensuring their homes remain places of safety and comfort. Our most recent project is a heartwarming example of the impact we can achieve together.

We had the privilege of working with a homeowner whose everyday life was being hindered by unsafe and aging features in their home. Their gratitude speaks volumes:

“Thank you, Habitat Team, for your excellent and professional service in taking out my bathtub, which I was at risk of falling in. Awesome blessings! Remodeling my bathroom was more than I could’ve ever imagined. I’m overwhelmed with the walk-in shower, the fixed overhead fan, absolutely beautiful flooring—and they didn’t stop there! My rail coming up the steps was coming off the hinges, which they fixed. My door that wouldn’t close, letting in cold air, was repaired. All my smoke detectors, which were not working, they fixed. My heartfelt gratitude for going above and beyond.” Mrs. Lewis, Taneytown, MD

Through this project, we replaced a hazardous bathtub with a walk-in shower, added new flooring, and repaired essential home features like a malfunctioning overhead fan and unstable handrails. We also addressed critical safety concerns by fixing non-working smoke detectors and sealing a drafty door. Every improvement was made with care, ensuring the homeowner’s needs and safety were the top priority.

This transformation is about more than just repairs—it’s about restoring dignity, peace of mind, and the ability to thrive in one’s own home. It’s also a testament to the power of community. None of this would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, the generosity of our donors, and the prayers and support of local congregations and community members.
